BAC

(Bilingual Advisory Committee)

What is a BAC?

The Bilingual Advisory Committee is a parent-led group that supports the families of students in bilingual and English Learner (EL) programs. It ensures that parents of English Learners have a voice in the education of their children and helps build stronger partnerships between schools and families.

Purpose of the BAC

  • Promote academic achievement for English Learners
  • Provide input on the school’s Bilingual Education Program
  • Educate parents on school and district policies, resources, and rights
  • Organize workshops and meetings to empower bilingual families
  • Ensure parent representation in school decision-making (often collaborates with the LSC)

Who's Involved

  • Parents of English Learners
  • Bilingual program staff
  • School leaders (e.g., ELPT—English Learner Program Teacher)
  • Community members

Meetings and Activities

BACs meet regularly to review and provide feedback on bilingual programs, learn about instructional strategies, testing, and academic support, and connect families with school resources and events.
