Big Brother and Big Sister Event
The SEL Club had a "BigBrother, Big Sister" event on Tuesday, March 10, 2020. SEL Ambassadors were able to work with students as buddy readers, read aloud in small group and in reading centers.
The "Big Brother and Big Sister" event is done to promote student leadership, SEL, and the love for reading. SEL students supported students in grades K-3rd grade for 30 minutes during their reading class.

Chicago Board of Education Early Childhood Committee
On January 14th, the Chicago Board of Education Early Childhood Committee was hosting a meeting with representatives from the Mayor’s Office, the Department of Family and Support Services, and Chicago Public Schools to share information about the larger early childhood agenda. Your voice was absolutely essential to providing the best possible programs and services for our young children. Thank you for participation.
Hour of Code/Donor's Choose Grant
Mrs. Derza had a $500 project fully funded on Donor’s Choose. For the Hour of Code week, primary students are using OSMO Coding to help their character Awbie solve problems.
Korean World Language
Ms. Kim integrated the Korean culture into her World language lessons. Interestingly, Ms. Kim taught students how to make Korean Sushi!
OFA Parent Workshop
"Handmade Books" OFA Workshop.
On November 14th, our parents learned about the ancient tradition of codex books and created one themselves during this engaging workshop led by Chicago artist, Diana Solis.

Social Emotional Learning
Middle school students were involved with a workshop, provided by the WE Organization in partnership with Unilever that involved the integration of a set of 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), which were adopted by the United Nations in September 2015. After completing several interactive activities, the students chose to focus on #6-Clean Water and Sanitation. Their plan is to ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all through various events.
We are celebrating our 100th Day of Learning in School!!! The students have fun with the number 100.
Our students made an excellent projects. One of the project was to dress up like a 100 year old person.
Father and Daughter Dance
Father Daughter Dance was a complete success, thank you to the fathers for sharing this moment with your beautiful daughters. Over 150 fathers and daughters attended this event. Thank you to Ms. Lysy for coordinating this event.

Happy Birthday Abraham Lincoln!
Room 124 - 1st graders celebrated Abraham Lincoln's birthday on
February 12, 2020. They listened to the text, "The Picture Book of Abraham Lincoln" and watched an educational video to learn extraordinary facts. Afterwards, the class created a terrific Thinking Map: Circle Map to define facts about the 16th President. Finally, the boys and girls engaged in a
wonderful craftivity and created an Abe look-alike hat by writing two fascinating facts! They even made their very own Abe Lincoln beard! President Lincoln is hailed as the greatest president of all times, Abraham Lincoln was a strong Presidential leader who is known for his honest ways. He was President during one of the worst wars in American history and was a great leader for our military. Abraham Lincoln helped to abolish slavery. President Lincoln made the world a BETTER PLACE!
NBC TV - Channel 5
Azuela's Dual-language Program is being recognized by CPS! NBC TV station visited our school to see first- hand the benefits and the impact on our students in the Dual-
Language program as well as our school’s community. Thanks to the bilingual and dual language teachers for their flexibility regarding NBC’s visit to our building. Our students shine even brighter when they speak about the benefits of being bilingual. Thank you to Ms. Marquez for welcoming NBC and reporter Chris Hush.

Amazon - Hour Of Code
Amazon is excited to come to our school and host activities in our classrooms. They were speaking to students about jobs in the tech industry and watch an inspiration video (expanded version of this (or similar) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qYZF6oIZtfc). They discussed all the ways that technology impacts the world and/or the exciting Amazon technological innovations that power Amazon like the Amazon Go store, Alexa, Kindle, Robotics, AWS Educate.
Amazon has created apps specifically for this event. Last year Amazon’s dance party was a big hit! https://code.org/dance Students worked through the tutorials. Amazon's goal is to expose students to coding.
